BREAKING: New Riverboat to Cruise New Orleans!

KENTUCKY- On September 21st, river rats rejoiced as news spread that a new riverboat will soon come to New Orleans. Expected to be completed by late 2017, plans propose a riverboat that will run as the Natchez’s partner. Set to be 160 feet long and 36 feet wide, it will be licensed for 600 passengers at a time. It will have three decks, including a dining room that should fit 200 people and allow full-time service. The news was announced on the year of the Natchez’s 40th anniversary, and caused more celebration than just the old steamboat itself. The Natchez has been cruising independently now since 1975, and the new riverboat would provide dining cruises, separate of the Natchez’s famed Sightseeing cruises. It is set to have a design resembling that of old, traditional steamboats, though it should be diesel. The design was inspired by the current boat on the Upper Mississippi, the Twilight. Be prepared for two boats in NOLA by 2017! –RI NEWS

New Website For Howard Steamboat Museum

The Howard Steamboat Museum, a museum and formerly occupied mansion in downtown Jeffersonville, IN (across from Louisville), now has a new website. The website, howardsteamboatmuseum.org, is very easy to navigate and find information on. According to a post at Steamboats.org, there are some bugs in it that will be shortly solved. Please visit the website, and the wonderful museum. My visit was very pleasant and I believe every riverboat lover should visit to learn more about the history of their rivers.

If you would like to visit the fundraising page, please do. It will be featured in my links page, as well as here: Delta Queen Fundraiser. For donating specific amounts of money, rewards can be won.

Great Steamboat Race 2015 Photos

KENTUCKY- On April 29, I went to the Great Steamboat Race for the 7th consecutive year. I watch from Cox Park an Kingfish (in Kentucky), which are the places I believe provide the best view. I was happy to see that there were many viewers that flocked to the waterfront to see the boats go by. The BELLE OF LOUISVILLE ended up beating the BELLE OF CINCINNATI for the golden antlers, and I enjoyed watching the race that I see every year.
